Ashlee Burd Scholarship

Each year, the GMS Band awards the Ashlee Burd Memorial Scholarship to deserving students who continue in band at the high school level.

The scholarship was established in 1997 in memory of Ashlee Burd, a 12-year-old Gifford Middle School student and Beginning Band clarinetist who was tragically killed in a car accident just hours before the band’s Spring Concert. That evening, her chair remained empty as the concert was dedicated to her memory and love of music. At her family’s request, memorial donations were given to the band, creating a scholarship that continues her legacy today.

All 8th grade students continuing in the high school band are eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Students must complete a scholarship application and return it to Mrs. Hastings, in a sealed envelope, by the first Wednesday in May at the end of their 8th grade year.
